The MC14511B BCD-7 segment latch/decoder/driver is constructed using a complementary MOS (CMOS) enhancement mode device and an NPN double-strike output driver in a monolithic architecture. The circuit provides 4-bit memory latch, 8421 BCD-7 segment decoder, and output driver functionality. The lamp test (LTbar), interval (BIbar), and latch enable (LE) inputs are used to test the display, turn off or pulse modulate the brightness of the display, and store the BCD code, respectively. It can also be used directly or indirectly for seven-segment light-emitting diodes (LEDs), incandescent, fluorescent, gas emission, or LCD displays. Applications include display drivers for instruments (e.g., counters, DVMs, etc.), computer/calculator display drivers, steering display drivers, and various clocks, meters, and timers.
